The US News & World Report college rankings are based upon data which US News collects from educational institutions, either from an annual survey, or from the school's website. The US News rankings motivate less well-known colleges to spend money on areas that will improve their visibility. Forbes Magazine also has jumped into the college rankings listings, which had been dominated by US News & World Report. The Forbes College Ratings seem to be more balanced, and include high rankings for many smaller colleges. Peterson's Guide is a comprehensive guide to US colleges, designed for students trying to choose between hundreds of competing colleges and universities.

Online application forms.Make job choices based on your long-term career goals. It is a good idea to stick with any job for a minimum of three years, so choose a job you're going to enjoy doing. For younger job seekers, take a look at Job Corps, which is geared towards helping new workers, age 16-24, gain entry-level experience. If someone leaves a job before having demonstrated a clear track record of success, it raises a lot of questions. Candidates with prior work experience are preferred by interviewers. A job candidate’s past experience, and especially the last place of employment, must be relevant to the job the company is seeking to fill. There must be a clear pattern of success, based on numeric results and personal achievements. Someone who is not familiar with the environment will be harder to train, and be more of a hiring risk. However, if you are able to make a great impression at your job interview, they may consider hiring you for an associate position, even without experience.

Developed by the Employment and Training Administration, Career One-stop enables you to search for job openings by location and career field. You can also find information about writing a resume, planning your job search strategy, and building a personal career network. For associate degree holders, or new college graduates entering the workforce, US Job Search is an excellent career development resource, drawn from The National Labor Exchange, while jobbankinfo.org lists job banks by state.

LinkedIn.com/job has a jobs section where you can search for positions by keyword and location. As a free member of LinkedIn, you can access detailed profiles of your prospective employers. Using a different methodology, LinkUp.com job openings are updated from actual company websites, not rehashed from other online job boards. When a company adds or removes job listings from their corporate website, the job postings on LinkUp are synchronized automatically.
